Recommendations for Korean Food

Here are some recommendations for those who seek Korean food in San Antonio.

Restaurant Recommendation

So, is Koreana Restuarant the only Korean restaurant in town? Absolutely NOT.

Ilsong Garden

6905 Blanco Road
(210) 366-4508
M-F 11-10, Sat 12-10
www.ilsonggarden.com

On Yelp! it has 3.5 stars, but on Urbanspoon is had approximately 90%, so it is your decision to make which website makes more sense. The restaurant is recommended by Dr. Clark (since he does take his History of Korea class). Inside, they have a lot of seating space, wide and not clamped.  The interior is clean and organized. The food price is average Korean food price, which means its more expensive than normal restaurants due to the ingredients used in any dish. Feel free to give it try!

Cooking Recommendation

Kimchi Fried Rice

Ingredients: Rice (White or Brown), Kimchi, Spam, Cooking Oil, Eggs, Carrots, Onions, and basically any vegetables you want in it.
1. Slice up all the ingredients that need to be. (Can use scissors for the Kimchi)
2. Spam goes on pan first for a bit, then vegetables.
3. Put the Kimchi in.
4. Cook for a little.
5. Put the Rice in and mix it up at a medium fire.
6. After mixing thoroughly (with no chunks of rice), push the rise to one side of the pan.
7. Put cooking oil and eggs on empty side of pan. Wait til is cooks a bit and then mix with fried rice (this is so you can actually see and eat the eggs with the fried rice).
8. Done and Enjoy!
* If the fried rice does not seem RED enough, you can poor the kimchi soup in to make it more red and taste more like Kimchi!

Winter Break in Korea

We hope everyone enjoys their winter break all around the world (now that grades are out...)! Be ready to enjoy a full semester of Asian-ness and Korean-ness when you get back for the spring.
Right now in Korea it is below zero, of course Celsius, and all the snow has melted due to the rain, but we are hoping to see a White Christmas.
December 19th, Wednesday is the official day for Presidential Elections and we will know by approximately 11:00 PM (Korean Time) who the next president will be. There are two main candidates that are closely running, Park Geun-hye and Moon Jae-in. So who will it be? Here is a video on the fierce campaigning in Korea done by some foreigners.
